2011, the year of the 50th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut Philippinen, coincides with Dr. Rizals 150th birthday. (Please see our special link: http://www.goethe.de/ins/ph/map/uun/muf/enindex.htm). For this reason the National Historical Commission had recommended us to have a series of commemorative stamps printed in 2011 featuring 3 motives of Dr. Rizal's stay with Pastor Ullmer while studying in Heidelberg. Accordingly the motives chosen are:
The Rizal statue in Heidelberg |
The house of Pastor Karl Ullmer in Wilhelmsfeld (near Heidelberg) |
The fountain which Dr. Rizal used to drink from; this fountain was shipped in 1963 to Manila where it still stands today in the Luneta Park. |
The 4th motive features the anniversary logo of the Goethe-Institut in the Philippines. |
|
The launching of these stamps took place on the 20th of June, the day after Rizal's birthday, in the Mall of Asia.
The stamps are available at the Goethe-Institut in the following formats:
First Day Cover – Php 100
Souvenir Folder – Php 300
Stamp Sheet (40 stamps) – Php 300
They can be ordered under info@manila.goethe.org
For special sponsors we currently prepare Stamp Folders in the format of Christmas Cards. The sponsor's logo may be placed next to the place where a first day letter with the first day stamps will be located inside the folder.
